Skystream renews multi-year contract with SES for VSAT network expansion in the Middle East

Leading satellite communications solutions provider SES is happy to announce that its client, SkyStream, has extended its multi-year capacity agreement on SES’ NSS-6 satellite at 95 degrees East to deliver reliable connectivity to its maritime, and oil and gas customers through secure VSAT networks.

Under the terms of agreement, SkyStream will use NSS-6 satellite’s Ku-band capacity in order to provide corporate VPN services across Afghanistan, Iraq and other key countries. This will keep SkyStream customers connected at all times.

In a company statement, SkyStream Managing Director Riyadh Al Adely noted: “We started our business with SES years ago and their services were the first bricks of our expansion and success. We are privileged to work with a professional and supportive partner such as SES. The latest deal with SES reaffirms our continued commitment to provide our customers with premium, cost-effective capacity and will allow us to extend our VSAT business across the region.”

Echoing the statement of Al Adely, SES SVP of Commercial, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East Deepak Mathur said that the renewal agreement acknowledges the partnership between SES and SkyStream that has been going strong since the last ten years. “We will continue to work closely with SkyStream to enable them to grow their corporate networks into new regions," Mathur added.

Intelsat, Digital Networks collaborate to enhance VSAT communications in North America

Satellite services provider Intelsat has collaborated with Digital Networks and signed a multi-year deal to help provide the company with capacity using its satellite fleet and IntelsatOne terrestrial network. This will allow Digital Networks, a provider of business-class satellite solutions to the energy sector, to support very small aperture terminal (VSAT) communications networks in North America.

Digital Networks will also leverage the capacity and teleport services of Intelsat on the Galaxy 3C satellite to help expand its network in Canada and the United States.

In a company statement, Digital Network CEO Curtis Blankenship said: “This agreement will enable Digital Networks to quadruple its available throughput for delivering integrated voice, data and real-time applications for our energy customers. With the energy services sector in North America expanding quickly, Intelsat was able to provide a solution that could help us support our customers’ strategic growth plans, positioning us well for the future.”

“Digital Networks’ energy customers require seamless communications in some of the harshest, most challenging environments imaginable,” Intelsat RVP of North America sales Mark Rasmussen said. “Intelsat is uniquely capable of delivering a reliable, highly scalable platform that can support these requirements, in North America and beyond.”

STM Group debuts new SatLink 2910 VSAT indoor unit

STM Group has introduced the company’s SatLink 2910 VSAT indoor unit, the highest capacity member yet of the SatLink family. By building on the tried-and-tested SatLink 2900 VSAT, SatLink 2910 triples the device’s throughput. Multicast or IP streaming data is supported at rates of up to 150Mbps, while bulk file transfers and interactive IP traffic are managed with exceptionally high throughput.

By supporting all kinds of satellite bands, the SatLink 2910 VSAT is perfect for powerful new Ku-and Ka-band High-Throughput satellites. This helps maritime and mobile markets to gain maximum efficiency.

Revmar chosen by Maritime Broadband as exclusive VSAT distributor in Cyprus, Greece

Revmar Dynamics, a company that provides both standalone and network-centric high-speed TETRA data solutions, has been chosen by U.S engineering company Maritime Broadband to be the full-service exclusive distributor of the C-Bird VSAt in Cyprus and Greece -- two of the essential markets in commercial shipping. Additionally, Revmar will also be one of Maritime’s non-exclusive distributors for the worldwide maritime market.

In lieu with this deal, Revmar Dynamics has already agreed with Greek shipping company Enterprises Shipping and Trading (EST) to install C-Bird VSAT aboard the first two marine vessels in their fleet as a pilot, expecting that the balance of the 98-vessel fleet will be installed the soonest possible time after the pilot’s completion.

Astrium extends its VSAT Coverage Services

Astrium, an aerospace subsidiary of the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company or EADS, announced that it had completed extensions of their VSAT coverage over the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). The company also said it plans to extend the coverage in Atlantic Ocean by the end of the year.

The extension project aims to increase Astrium’s already extensive global coverage, adding more bandwidth in high-demand regions, and delivering services across a global market. Last September, the Paris-based civil and military space system provider announced that brands like Pharostar, Sealink, and Wavecall will be benefiting from the improved VSAT coverage.

Standardized VSAT services will enjoy an increased to 3mbps in data throughput speeds while customized Sealink solutions will get 10mbps. The VSAT services from Astrium support a range of applications including Internet, data backup, fax and SMS, voice calls, and email.

New VSAT services to Southeast Africa courtesy of Gilat SatCom

Nigerian-based communications solutions provider Gilat SatCom unveiled plans to extend its VSAT services to Southeast africa with high-bandwidth internet on satellite connectivity. The company will be making use of the SkyEdge 2 technology which runs under the Amos 5 ku-band satellite.

According to Gilat, the new project will cover the northern reaches of the Democratic Republic of Congo down to South Africa. Upload speeds are expected to range between 512 kbps to 2048 kbps. The VSAT service aims to deliver to customers high-speed satellite broadband connectivity that could withstand various weather conditions while being offered at a relatively low-cost price.

Micro VSAT System introduced by SELEX Elsag

Finmeccanica’s Defense and Security Electronics company, SELEX Elsag, has launched an innovative Micro VSAT system that is redefining how satellite terminals are viewed today. The ultra lightweight device is compatible with the X and Ku band spectrums, and has been designed to weather various conditions regardless of its compactness.
 
SELEX Elsag said that the Micro VSAT delivers state-of-the-art use requirements perfect for both military and commercial users. The multiband terminal features a GPS positioning system and inclinometers, allowing its antenna to align with a satellite accurately and quickly. The Micro VSAT has also been designed to allow easy set-up. Users simply have to take it from its single Peli case, and make use of the intuitive display system, and set-up will take less than five minutes.
 
According to SELEX, the integrated terminal weighs only 23 Kg thanks to its motor-driven like software system which delivers user-friendly displays to the operator, while reducing weight and power consumption.
